We have few guarantees in life, but unfortunately death touches us all. Perhaps you've lost a loved one or know neighbors who have passed away? Maybe not. One day though, hopefully a long way down the road, you will face a transition, either yours or someone you love. Doula services help the dying, and their loved ones, prepare for not only the actual transition, but the process itself. Services can include as much, or as little, assistance as desired. The Doula’s primary objective is to support the patient in their transition, so that the patient knows they are not alone. Some potential services are listed below, but these are not exhaustive:
work in conjunction with hospice team to ensure needs and desires are met discuss end of life changes, expectations, physical and emotional needs discuss patient and family desired care help tie up loose ends help plan final services help family prepare for loss prayer if desired make referrals to assist with financial planning companionship before, during, and/or after patient transition, as desired help direct family or caregiver with patient’s physical care needs support at deceased service, as desired follow-up with family as desired
